Frequently asked questions
About funding options and applications at KiKa
Got questions? Below you will find answers to questions that are frequently asked to the KiKa research team.

Funding options

KiKa has no separate funding option for printing costs of dissertations. However, these costs can be (partially) covered through the 'personal budget' that might have been requested for KiKa research (pilot) projects and programs. If you are working on a KiKa research (pilot) project or program, please reach out to the project leader to inquire about the possibilities to use the personal budget to reimburse printing expenses.
No, generally the maximum duration of a project is four years. However, also funding for shorter research projects (e.g. 1, 2, or 3 years) can be requested.
No, this is not always the case. Regular research projects can also have shorter
durations, such as 1.5 years.
Yes, this is possible. In general, the duration of a research project is maximized at four years. Longer durations are possible if the necessity is properly justified in the application. This justification will be evaluated by the Scientific board. In case of a duration of more than four years, the budget tool for research programs can be used for the proposed budget instead of the budget tool for research projects. In case of doubt, it is always possible to contact the KiKa research team beforehand via research@kika.nl.
Research applications

No, this is not a requirement. Project leaders, co-applicants, and/or collaborators should possess relevant expertise that aligns with the research objectives outlined in the application. This expertise may be provided by researchers affiliated with the Princess Máxima Center, but it can also be provided by qualified researchers affiliated with other institutions.
The upcoming deadlines can be found here.
Applications need to be submitted by the specific dates specified here, at 23:59 the latest. Applications that are submitted after this time might not be taken into consideration until the next submission round.
Quotations allow KiKa to determine whether the requested budget is accurate. Therefore, quotations need to be submitted for all activities that will not be directly performed by the research team of the applicants, but for instance by core facilities or (external) service providers. Quotations must include material costs and, if applicable, the number of personnel hours allocated to the project. The fee per hour is set in the budget tool and cannot be adjusted. If applicable, it is also possible to refer to a standard price indication or price list, instead of a specific quotation. If this list includes many different items, clearly indicate which one(s) apply.
This might be possible. Funding may only be requested for personnel performing operational tasks within the project. Costs related to project supervision are not eligible for funding.
For an estimate of the correct salary, the (prospected) person's education and experience must be considered in relation to existing staff categories in the budget tool. If in doubt, please contact us via research@kika.nl.
